I bought it just in time for our trip to Yosemite NP during Memorial Day weekend.Used it to cook breakfast and dinner on the camp site for 2-4 families we stayed together with.Worked very well both in terms of cook time and how much meat I could barbecue at one time.Pretty easy to clean up.And it certainly is compact, perfect for travel.Overall, I am satisfied with this product and its price.

19 years now and only problem was when the o rings failed (after 15 years) and the jet clogged once. I had it repaired on a trip within 10 miuntes. Learn to field strip before you use. Be sure primer cup can be removed w/o a tool (hand tighten. I carry spare rings now and soon fuel line just in case because I go solo and or in 20 miles.12000 ft no problem, 22-26 degrees no problem.Never tried other fuels but have read vodka can be used.If 100 proof ?? Always use the heat deflector not shown for safety. A metal base option (3oz) is great for uneven surfaces.Daily use - I figure on 2-3 oz's fuel per day with breakfast 10 minutes and dinner 25.Adjustable flame can simmer real low.Primes nicely.Avoid cheap fuel. I use Coleman for best results.

I have owned this for several months after reading about stocking a well supplied emergency preparedness kit in the event of an earthquake or other disaster.

I have two stoves (one at home and one at work) along with a dozen cans of butane fuel.

I actually use the stove for potluck days at the office where I can make my famous country breakfast for the staff. I keep some non stick spray for the fry pan and so the clean up is fast and the set up and take down of the stove is quick. This is a very portable device and I plan on taking it with me for camping trips.

I highly recommend it. 5 out of 5 stars!

During a recent ice storm destroying our power for several days we were forced to bring out our campstoves. One of them requires this type of bottled gas. I'd never used this campstove before, but the ease of inserting the can and the amount of heat, was the easiest, most phenomenal thing making cooking during this crisis stress free. A fantastic product.

This single Burner is exactly what I was looking for.I have only electric appliances and I wanted a gas Burner for the occassional times I want to cook on gas. This works great. Out of the case it is sleek and shiny Black. The Butane cartridge is not visiBle at all.

The Butane cartridges are extremely easy to use:Line up the notch, close the cover, lock in place and turn the knoB to ignite.

This is easy to clean and store. The case is not extremely thick or sturdy(don't picture the stuff kid's sandBoxes are made of - i can't think of the name), But adequate to close and store the unit and makes it easy to carry and keep it neat and clean.

I am pleased with the purchase and was definitely worth the price.

Alpha is Chinese made household gas burner. In China, people used this burner for mainly everyday cooking. It does not comply with US standard. Specially, the gas hose and its connector does NOT fit our standard US gas regulator and LP tank. No way you can use it with your LP tank unless you break your own safety. Don't be fooled and mislead by the pictures. The gas hose included with the burner is USELESS. HABOR FREIGHT storeand online is selling gas burners for about $40 meet our standard and regulator.

Works just like a stove at home and can reach a high heat quickly. Boil water for coffee, fry eggs and bacon etc. etc. The butane canisters last quite long as well. On a 3 day camping trip we used just under 2 cans to cook food for 8 people each day. Not bad considering the fuel can be bought for $1.50 a can.

Also, finding these fuel cans can be tricky in stores. The local REI's, Big-5's and Sportsmarts didn't have them (southern california). The best place to find them is in Asian/Indian markets like 99 Ranch. Asians like to use these at home for hot-pot meals and the fuel cans are available there.

Portable Butane Gas Camp Stove Camping Burner Range Review

I was under the assumption that the fuel that one sees at the big-box stores for camping would be butane. Not so.

After finding fuel for this stove at a local hardware store (as an aside, it was much cheaper than the stove fuel found at the big box stores, and lasts just as long), we took this stove camping.Nice, compact design and quick cooldown are definite bonuses to this item.I especially like the very easy turn-knob ignition and flame control.

The only caveat is that it does not have a wind guard. If it is windy it takes quite a while to cook food or boil water.I rigged a wind guard out of a box covered with aluminum foil and it worked wonders.I am planning on making one out of metal that is foldable so I can pack it along with the stove.

Overall, nice stove.

Electrolux : EW30DS65GS 30in Slide-in Dual Fuel Range, 4 Sealed Burners, Convection - Stainless Stee
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We purchased this range just over a year ago as a part of a major remodel of our home.We originally wanted the GE Cafe' series but were talked into this new Electrolux unit by our local appliance center as being "more reliable".This range has been a nightmare from the day it was installed. We have endured multiple repair calls for various major and minor issues:

1) The first time we used the lower oven (Thanksgiving Day 2008, the day after installation) the door locked shut and could not be opened - with rolls in the oven.We shut off the heat but could still not open the door for 10-15 more minutes until the rolls were ruined. The dealer attempted to repair this issue a few times, with instruction and new parts from Electrolux techs. One repair was a six hour marathon requiring insulation to be removed and elements replaced. The oven worked a few times without locking and then the problem recurred. Two more sets of parts including replacing the lower oven door with an identically designed unit still didn't fix the problem.Electrolux techs clearly were grasping for solutions and had no clue as to how to effect the repair.

2)The main oven would take 20-22 minutes to pre-heat, even on the "rapid pre-heat setting".Were told by techs that it is the way the range is designed because of the "hidden element." The replacement range pre-heats a little more quickly.

3)Two of the four gas burners would not ignite regularly. The igniters would click but not ignite. This was an intermittent problem. The tech said that we weren't hitting "just the right spot" on the dial when turning it on.Even if correct (which I dispute - we had no problem with the other two burners) what kind of poor design requires that kind of operational precision?

4) After one month the center metal grid snapped in half while cleaning (using light pressure - honest folks!)Vendor replaced the item without question.

5) After about 10 months the electronic control panel would intermittently not work when trying to operate the main oven. The temperature could be set, but after pressing the start touchpad the temperature would reset and not turn on the oven.

I called Electrolux/Frigidaire directly and due to the long record of repairs and reported problems, and since the problems could not be fixed, they replaced the entire unit without argument. The new unit arrived in about a week and was installed by the original vendor. After one use (10 minutes of boiling eggs) all of the ignitors went out.We have been lighting the range burners with matches for a week while waiting for the repair parts.

Pros:
1) Cool, very high tech electronic touch pad control panel.
2) Attractive appearance - clever, graduated power up oven lights.
3) Very smooth gliding racks in the main oven.
4) Good self-cleaning performance.
5) Small lower oven has limited use due to size but is very convenient to have for small items and warming.
6) Efficient heating by all four gas burners.Good variation of sizes and BTU outputs.

Cons:
1) Unreliable - Doesn't work well (a pretty big con.)
2) The main oven is relatively small in capacity and shallow front to back - a large pizza won't fit unless the edge is folded up against the front door or rear of the oven. We had to remove all racks but one and set it on the lowest guiderail to accomodate a moderate sized turkey.
3) The lower over is very small (height-wise)...can't put a casserole with a lid on it in the oven.
4) Stainless surfaces scratch very easily, even with careful cleaning.A single grain of salt scratched the SS surface of the cooktop the first time we cleaned it.We have since learned to carefully daub all "specks" off of the cook top before wiping it clean.
5) The oven racks are difficult to remove and replace to adjust baking levels. All racks but the center rack must be removed if using the convection setting to allow for "proper circulation of heated air" (per owner's manual.)
6) The oven fan runs for over two hours after the unit is turned off - a cool down feature I suppose. (This may be a "pro" for some people but is annoying.)
7) The exhaust from the oven vents out the FRONT of the unit instead of the rear or rear/top which would take advantage of the overhead exhaust fan.Uncomfortable when cooking and baking at the same time and really fills the kitchen with acrid smelling fumes during the self cleaning cycle.
8) Slooooow to pre-heat.

We may just have been unlucky and received two "lemons", but with so many good alternatives on the market in this price range I would recommend looking to another manufacturer for a dual fuel slide in unit.If another breakdown occurs within the next few months we will get rid of this range at a loss and buy from another company. However,if we experience no problems I will return and edit this rating up to "three stars".

An afternoon of visiting a few stores and a price match with 10% off, brought the price down to about $1800.Still not cheap... but we found out quickly that today, $1000 doesn't even buy you a nice gas stove with extra features... just a gas stove cheaply made. We've owned this for about 2-months and it's fun to cook again! I can actually cook with 5 large pots and pans at the same time! They moved the burners out 3-inches, so it's still 30" but you have more cooking area.I can boil water in 5 minutes, program it to shut off after the food has cooked for a set period of time, and the center burner cooks pancakes and bacon just perfectly at 6000 BTU's (all other stoves with oval center burners were 5000 BTU's). Sorry, haven't tried the convection yet.... but it converts automatically.Have read other people's concerns over the fan noise, honestly we haven't noticed, but most of our cooking is done well under 425 degrees. The stove will give you a nice commercial look, one burner gives you professional level 18,000 BTU's, and for the price it's a great choice. If you're a professional chef/cook, I can't imagine you would be happy, it would be all look and not enough power. But for us, large family, cooking 2-meals at home per day, sometimes different items for the finicky kid, it had all the extra features we wanted at a great price without getting into a commercial stove with a big price tag.

Portable Butane Stove Review

Portable Butane Stove
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This butane stove is sturdy and strong. It's big enough that you don't have to worry about the whole thing tipping over, the way you do with a tiny camping stove.

The butane canister kind of looks like a large bottle of hairspray. It's simple to install the butane canister - you just put the canister in there gently and flip a lever to connect it - there's no chance that you will get it in there the wrong way. (You don't have to pour any fuel in with a funnel, or anything smelly like that.) When you are ready to store away the stove, you just disconnect the butane canister, pop the plastic cap back on, and put it away.

I found out that butane canisters can be purchased on the web, but the shipping costs are more than the cost of the canisters, so it's easier to buy them locally at restaurant supply stores, or sporting/camping stores. On the other hand, if you are in the middle of a big weather disaster, and every store in town is sold out of butane canisters, then who cares about how much it costs. Thankfully UPS and Fedex deliver will stuff to your door, even in the middle of a winter wind/ice storm. Normally a butane canister costs about $2 or $3, and lasts around 3 hours. It's better to have a few in the garage, because they sell out pretty fast during a big windstorm, even in a metro city area.

This is a great stove for when the power goes out. The next time we get a windstorm, and the power goes out for 3 days, like it did during the big windstorm of Jan 2007 in the metro Seattle area, I'm all set.

By the way, I would recommend getting a butane stove even if you have a generator, because you will need the generator to run some lights and a heater. It's not much fun to have to disconnect the heater and the lights from the generator, , in freezing weather. With a butane stove, you can have your coffee, and your lights and heater too. It makes life much more pleasant during a long power outage.

Hario Buono Drip Kettle Review

Hario Buono Drip Kettle

I make coffee in a Chemex 1-3 Cup Coffee Maker and controlling the pour is important. It's almost impossible to control the pour from a standard kettle. The Buono drip kettle allows very good control and really makes a difference in the coffee. I boil water in a kettle then transfer to the Buono and let the water sit for one minute which gives it time to cool to the right temp (about 92C). I believe it's OK to boil the water in the Buono but I don't. I make sure to dry it when I'm done and only use it to pour. So far, it's been excellent.
